I came across this oddly-cut shirt on the Urban Outfitters site and fell in love with its quirkiness. It’s cut short and wide … which doesn’t necessarily sounds appealing – but it’s undeniable in its own way. The fusion of rainbow and geometry also speaks to me in that recapturing-my-not-too-far-off-youth kind of way. As you can imagine, this made for a particularly fun photo shoot.

The main purpose of this post however, is the lipstick. It’s by NARS and it’s called Volga and while the flash means it photographs as a deep red, I assure you, in person it’s quite the fetching plum shade. It’s definitely not for your run-of-the-mill wallflower either.

I have two things to show you in this post. The first is my nail polish, it’s by L’Oreal and it’s called Apple of My Eye. I would describe it as a carnival-red. I have a brainflow chart that breaks down how I may have arrived at this association.

The other thing I want to show you is MY SUPERCOOL NEW PLEATHER HALF-PANTS. I will NOT stop yelling. I’m very excited about this pleather-legging hybrid.

Have you ever seen nail art inspired by a cereal box? Well you’re about to.
I think this guy’s a fan.
Here’s the overall shot. Sidebar, I like cats.
Now before you start pointing out that Tony is a tiger and my nails are leopard print, let me just say … shut it. Here’s the close-up:
How did I get such wickedness on ma nails? The Konad Stamping Nail Art system! I happened upon this stuff at one of those mall booths, my terminator-style shopping radar spotted the leopard print plate from 5 feet away at which point I had no choice but to zero in for closer inspection. My having walked away at that point would have been like telling a clown not to be a creepy bastard. Anywho, let me show you some pictures of the Stamping kit.
First, the plate itself.
You’ll notice traces of black nail polish. This is ‘special’ nail polish from Konad which is formulated to be much thicker than you average bottle. I’m not sure if I just got up-selled – hard – or if a thicker formulation is legitimately necessary. I’ll test it out with a regular polish at some point to find out. Here’s a picture of the teeck (say ‘thick’ like a frenchman) polish.
Finally, this is what the stamp looks like. You have a large and small pad on either end. It also comes with a squeegee to wipe away the excess nail polish after you’ve brushed it onto the plate.
Now that you’ve seen all the tools, I’ll go over the steps briefly. First you have to have a fully dried base coat, I’m wearing Essie Mini Shorts. Then you brush your teeck nailpolish onto the desired pattern on the plate and quickly wipe away the excess with the mini-squeegee. Lastly, you use the stamp to transfer the nail polish print from the plate onto your nails. Overall, I found this stuff really easy to use. The only blip came when I put a top coat on and the pattern streaked a bit. I think the key to avoiding streaking is to use as few strokes as possible as to avoid dragging and loosening up the black polish.
If anyone reading this goes out and tries Konad, send me pictures!
The Great Turband Experiment

Yesterday, I was inspired by The Man Repeller to rock a Turband. As luck would have it I ended up on Ossington Avenue in Toronto – a haven for your low-key hipster. Suffice it to say, I saw my fair share of decorative hipster-glasses. My point is, the Turband fit right in and while I’m not certain what the hipster-strangers thought, my friends were big fans. Below you’ll find my first attempt at a Turband (check out the necklace!)
And now, my bold choice of outerwear. After all, a Turband-er does not shy away from ‘personality’.

Karl & Gaga Wake Up in Vegas

When I saw Lady Gaga’s Vanity Fair cover I developed an immediate obsession with the nail polish she’s wearing.
A few days of frantic googling revealed the nail polish was Waking Up in Vegas by Deborah Lippmann. A little while after that, I discovered that Holt Renfrew carries the Deborah Lippman range but of course, Waking Up in Vegas was sold out. Yesterday, I finally managed to snag a bottle. Waking Up in Vegas is described as a putty grey. The problem is that on Gaga’s nails (lighting is obviously a factor) it’s more putty (mwah) but on my nails, it’s more grey (meh). See what I’m talkin’ ’bout below.
At this point you’re probably asking yourself if that’s Karl Lagerfeld in the background. The answer is YES. Actually, it’s my comic print Karl Lagerfeld scarf. Yes, for his eponymous line, Karl Lagerfeld created a scarf with a print of HIMSELF on it. And YES, I then proceeded to pay money for this item.
I recently had a chance to catch up with Karl. Naturally, I asked him for his thoughts on my latest project. So I says to Karl, I says:
Karl, What do you think of Too Many Grandmas?
He made me sweat a little at first by drawing out his answer …
But then the WORLD breathed a collective sigh of relief when he made the following declaration:
